Property Information

Freycinet Retreat

1799, Coles Bay Road
Coles Bay TAS 7215 Australia

Freycinet Eco Retreat is an Eco Certified 1200 acre "Land for Wildlife" property set in the middle of the Freycinet peninsula adjacent to the National Park, and only a short drive to the World famous Wineglass Bay.

If you are expecting a resort, you will be disappointed as we are a nature retreat and we particularly appeal to travellers who appreciate getting away from it all in a truly natural and beautiful environment. We offer a very different experience from larger organisations, but still provide a professional, individual service and an experience that you will remember.

Freycinet Eco Retreat has some stunning views of the peninsula from Friendly Beaches and the Tasman Sea in the east, round to the Hazards mountain range and Great Oyster Bay, which form the backdrop to Coles Bay to the south, and round again to Dolphin Sands and Moulting Lagoon, which is a RAMSARS site to the west.

On the property itself, you are welcome ta take a walk using our own map of the property or try out the permanently set up orienteering course for which we can also provide a map. There are also some great walks on the peninsula - the Wineglass Bay circuit or return trip to the lookout are a must for most visitors to the area, but there are also some less well worn tracks further down the peninsula, or if you are up for a climb then try Mt Amos, which offers some amazing views of the Freycinet peninsula.

As well as walking the other activities available to visitors are canoeing (both tours and hire), boat hire, fishing trips, four wheel motorbike tours, mountain bike hire, birdwatching, rockclimbing, abseiling, surfing, snorkelling/diving, sea cruising, scenic flights, sailing and of course just chilling out on one of the beautiful beaches.

For the wine connoiseur or for those who just like to try the local produce, then you are in for a treat with the selection of wines from local boutique producers, many of which are sought after in top restaurants around the Country and beyond. There is also a marine farm - which just happens to be almost opposite our entrance, so it doesn;t get much fresher than that. Here you can try oysters, scallops, mussels and crayfish.

When you come here, make sure you allow yourself time to try out all that the area has to offer. Stay a few nights so that you can really soak it up!

Freycinet Retreat

3 Day Walk with Studio

3 Day Walk with Studio Book

In 3 adventurous days, we explore the Freycinet Peninsula, taking in both iconic landscapes and world class beaches. This itinerary may need to be varied depending on weather and other conditions, but nonetheless, the aim will be to ensure that clients have a wonderful experience of the Freycinet area. Our booking system works on a nightly rate, so we have had to divide the trip price by the number of nights to get the rate displayed. You will find therefore when you go through the booking process that the system will multiply up again by the number of nights to make the full trip price.

Day One
You will be collected from your central Hobart accommodation at 8am on a Sunday morning to join our small group travelling North East to the coast via the colonial village of Richmond. Our first day’s walk will see us entering the Freycinet National Park for the one of the finest day walks on Tasmanian East Coast. The 11 km Hazards loop takes us to the Wineglass Bay lookout before descending to the white sands of the bay itself. After time to wander the beach, we continue by crossing the peninsula woodlands to Hazards Beach where we can enjoy a swim in the ocean before returning via the granite coastline. We will then check-in to our unique accommodation at Freycinet Eco Retreat, where each cabin features stunning ocean views . Your luggage will be waiting for you so you can refresh and then relax on your own individual decks before joining the group for dinner round a fire pit at “The Barn” with views of the sunset over the Swan River Estuary.

Day Two
On day two we take an aqua taxi South along the Peninsula to Cooks Beach where we are dropped off for a hearty climb up Mt Freycinet, followed by a walk back along Wineglass Bay / Hazards Beach, and a boat trip back. For clients seeking a more relaxing walk, there is an option to walk back along the coast from Cooks Beach to the pick-up point on Hazards Beach. In the evening we will enjoy another meal around the fire pit back at Freycinet Eco Retreat.

Day Three
After breakfast we will use a hiking trail through the National Park exclusive to “Walk Freycinet” that winds along a ridgeline through the dry sclerophyll forest before descending to Freshwater Lagoon and Friendly Beaches. We then walk north along Friendly Beaches for a picnic lunch before we are picked up for our journey to Launceston, arriving in town at around 5pm.

By making a booking for accommodation, guests warrant that they have read these terms and conditions and agree to be bound by them subject to such changes as are notified to them. If the booking for accommodation is made through a third party, the terms and conditions of that third party also apply.
All accommodation is provided subject to availability.
Rates are per unit, per night based on two-person occupancy. The accommodation at FER is set-up for a maximum number of two people in each unit. If your party consists of a greater number than has been allowed for in the booking (including infants), then we reserve the right to immediately cancel the booking, with any refund being at FER’s discretion.
The accommodation at FER is not suitable for infants or children under the age of 18years. If you bring any children or infants, then we reserve the right to immediately cancel the booking with any refund being at FER’s discretion.
By providing credit card details, guests warrant they have the authority to use the credit card and they authorise FER to charge the cost of their booking(s) to that credit card.
Please be aware that check-in time is normally after 3pm, and check-out time is normally by 10am on the day of departure.
Do’s and Don’ts
Here are a few do's and don'ts that apply during your stay at FER:
1. The water supply at FER is rainwater caught off the rooves of the buildings. The supply is limited, so we would appreciate it if guests are “water conscious” during their stay.
2. AS FER is a retreat, and we would request that guests keep noise to a minimum, and do not explore the property by vehicle, so as not to impact on the ability of other guests to enjoy the peaceful privacy of FER. If you plan on getting together with friends in the area who are not staying at FER can you please liaise with us in advance and note that we reserve to refuse entry if we consider the numbers to be unreasonable.
3. There is a speed limit of 30kmph around FER, and guests are advised to beware of oncoming vehicles in the centre of the narrow gravel roads. Extra care is needed in the case of slippery conditions in wet weather.
4. Please note that much of the property is rough bush and rocky terrain, and whilst you are welcome to walk around, guests are advised to keep to the walking tracks and exercise care on any steep, slippery or uneven surfaces. A downloadable printable map of the property is available on our website.
5. In order to maintain the wild quality of FER and natural respect that animals have for humans, we would request that guests do not feed the wildlife. Pets are not allowed on the premises.
6. In order to preserve the peaceful atmosphere at FER, we reserve the right to refuse entry to any guests, and/or their visitors who do not respect our ethos.
7. We would request that you please do not use any massage or baby oil on the beds, or any bleaching agents on the towels as if this occurs we have to replace the damaged items. If any items are lost, damaged or broken during your visit we should be grateful if you could let us know so that we can arrange a repair or replacement. We also reserve the right to recharge visitors for any damage that occurs that we consider to be over and above normal wear and tear.
8. When you leave the accommodation, can you please turn off all heaters and lights so that we can keep our carbon footprint to a minimum?

Many thanks.

Either way we will do our best to rebook, and, if successful, we would normally return the booking fee, less an admin fee of $50.
No refund will be granted for cancellation of bookings for stays between 23rd December and 8th January inclusive; or for the part of the booking which falls between these dates.
FER reserves the right to cancel a booking for whatever reason. Should this occur then the deposit and/or booking fee will be fully refunded, but no responsibility will ensue to FER for any consequential loss to the client as a result of that cancellation.
