Gee Dee's Family Cabins at Karumba Point, affordable family-style, couples or fisherperson accommodation on the Gulf of Carpentaria at the mouth of the Norman River.
Your stay will be in a family owned and operated, motel like, cabins as well as a 3 bedroom holiday house, that offer you the latest in modern, clean, air conditioned rooms. Your hosts are able to offer local advice and assistance to make your stay at Karumba an enjoyable one.
All the accommodation is conveniently located opposite a park leading to the beach, 150 metres to the boat ramp and opposite the tavern, famous for its sunsets. There is also a small supermarket 3 doors away and café next door.
The properties facilities include: Off street parking, fish cleaning, freezer space, crab cooker, BBQ area and Laundry. As well as boat hire.
This is the only stretch of beach that can be reached by a sealed road in the Gulf Savannah region. Well known for its fishing and prawning, this area is also rich in bird-life, particularly after the wet season. Karumba was once a base for Empire flying boats on their journey from Sydney to London and later as a Royal Australian Air Force base for Catalina Flying Boats. Karumba Point has a history that goes back as far as 1872.
At Karumba travelers who have been just about everywhere in Australia will tell you there is nowhere with quite the same atmosphere as Karumba in winter. It's friendly and totally laidback. Some people claim it's the best spot in the world to be sitting while you're watching the sunset.
Karumba is one of the most bountiful fishing spots Australian and overseas anglers like to visit. Visitors to this region frequently catch Barramundi, Jewfish and King Salmon in the warmer months. Blue salmon, Grunter, mud-crabs and Bream are caught most of the year. In the winter months Spanish mackerel and queen fish are often caught. The Barramundi season is from February to October, the exact time depends on when the fish spawn, so check as you make your booking.
Fishing at Karumba is easily achieved off the beach or out near the sand bars which surround the mouth of the Norman River. People with larger boats often head north or south along the coast to try their luck in the Brannigan, Fitzmorris, Bynoe or Flinders Rivers, while others prefer to fish off Pelican Island. '
The waters of Karumba contain a variety of marine life; you can fish from the beach at high tide or from a boat at any time.
For those guests who would like to go on a fishing charter there are several local operators. Gee-Dee’s are happy to assist with arrangements, which should be made the afternoon before. Full and half day charters are available.
The whole mood is relaxed as travellers, fishermen, birdwatchers and locals gather in the late afternoon to enjoy the "million dollar sunset" across the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Terms & Conditions
TERMS and CONITIONS
1. DEFINITIONS
“Booking” means the period for which you have paid to stay at the Property.
“Property” means Gee-Dee’s Family Cabins and all its fixtures, fittings and equipment.
“Management” means the owners and managers of the Property.
"Guests" means the persons who stay overnight in the Property during the Booking.
"Visitor" means a person a Guest permits to visit the Property during the Booking.
2. ACCEPTANCE & RESPONSIBILITY.
• Payment of the Deposit constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
3. CHECK IN/ OUT
• Check-in time is not before 2pm on the arrival date and check out time is not later than 10am on departure date.
• Late departure is subject to prior arrangement and availability and extra charges will apply.
• You must notify Management of expected arrival time and a mobile contact number at least 7days before arrival.
• Check-in/check-out and key collection/return procedure will be as follows:-
Present to the office to check in and collect or return your room key, unless special arrangements have been made prior to arrival or departure.
4. PAYMENT
• A deposit of a minimum of one nights tariff or your credit card details, must be received with the Booking. Bookings are not confirmed unless and
until the deposit and / or card details are received.
• Payment in full must be received no later than guest departure.
• Please ensure payments are made within the specified time limits or the Booking will be cancelled automatically without notice or liability to you.
• We accept payment by the following methods:
Visa, MasterCard, direct deposit into our bank account.
• Personal cheques will be accepted if received at least 30 days prior to arrival.
• Our bank details if not set out below will be advised to you.
5. CANCELLATION OR VARIATION
• If you wish to vary or cancel your Booking, please contact us immediately on 07 4745 9433
• Your deposit is non-refundable or will be levied if a cancellation is received within seven (7) days of your check in date. Otherwise a refund will be
arranged.
• If you have paid more than the deposit or paid in full and cancel your Booking you will be refunded the total if outside seven days of check in. If
inside seven days of check in, the equivalent of one nights tariff will be levied.
• Should you be eligible for a refund it will be made through your chosen payment method at time of booking.
• A variation of the Booking which reduces the number of nights stay will be a treated as a cancellation of the Booking in respect of those nights.
• A variation of the Booking which reduces the number of guests will be treated as a cancellation of the Booking in respect of those guests.
• If Management is able to relet the Property for the period cancelled a further refund may be made less administration charges, commissions and
expenses.
6. SECURITY BOND
• A credit card authorisation must be provided to Management upon confirmation of your Booking
• Any damage loss or expense incurred by Management as a result of your breach of these Terms & Conditions will be charged against the credit
card. Examples include but are not limited to any breakage, damage or excess cleaning requirements, extra Guests or Visitors beyond those
declared.
7. UNAVAILABILITY
• If the Property becomes unavailable for your occupancy due to unforeseen circumstances (eg. fire, storm, damage, etc.) then Management will
inform you immediately and endeavour to obtain suitable alternative accommodation for your occupancy; failing which any moneys paid will be
refunded in full.
8. PARTIES & FUNCTIONS
• Parties and Functions are strictly prohibited.
9. LINEN AND TOWELS
• We supply linen, pillows, blankets and towels which must be left where supplied in the bedrooms or bath room on departure.
• Cleaning and linen change usually occurs weekly or more often upon request and at additional cost.
10. PETS
• Pets are not allowed at the Property.
11. YOUR OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
• You must comply with all applicable House Rules and all instructions from Management and the caretakers of the Property concerning occupancy,
property, health, safety and quiet enjoyment of the Property and our neighbours.
• You are responsible for damage, breakages, theft and loss of the Property and any part of it during your stay. You must notify us of this
immediately. Management may recover from you repair or replacement cost (at Management's discretion)
• Only the guests nominated and agreed in the Booking may stay in the Property over-night. If any other guests stay extra charges may apply or the
agreement may be terminated without refund.
• Disturbance to our neighbours, including excessive noise, is prohibited and may result in termination and eviction without refund and extra charges
may be made for security and other expenses.
• Before departure, all food must be removed from fridges, all rubbish put in the appropriate council rubbish bins provided, and crockery and cutlery
washed and packed away. The Property must be left in a clean and tidy condition.
• Extra cleaning charges may be incurred for the cleaning of dirty dishes, removal of excessive rubbish etc. Should the cleaning fee be more than the
usual cost for cleaning the property, you will be charged the additional costs over and above the normal cleaning fee which will be deducted from
the security bond or charged to your credit card.
• All furniture and furnishings must be left in the position they were in when you arrived.
Please do not move the beds around as they are heavy and damage the floor coverings.
• The property should be vacated on time and secured. All windows and doors are to be locked. All keys must be returned to Management or as
otherwise directed.
• You are responsible for the safekeeping and replacement of accommodation keys.
• Smoking is not permitted in all rooms.
12. PROBLEMS OR COMPLAINTS
• In the case of any problem or complaint, you must inform Management at the earliest opportunity so Management has the chance to rectify the
situation as quickly and efficiently as possible. You must allow repair/service access to the property during reasonable hours.
• Any complaint, which cannot be resolved locally, must be notified in writing to Management prior to departure from the Property.
• Failure to follow this procedure this may hinder the ability of Management to rectify the problem or complaint and reduce or extinguish any claim you
may have.
We recommend all guests purchase travel insurance since Management are not responsible for any injuries, illness or accidents that may occur whilst staying at our property.
