Enjoy Penghana's old world hospitality and tranquil, elegant environment with 21st century comforts. To stay in this National Trust Mansion overlooking Queenstown on the rugged West Coast of Tasmania, is truly a unique experience.

The front entrance with its Huon pine ornamental panelling, Blackwood staircase, open fireplaces and spacious rooms are reminders of a significant past.

Penghana's 6 guest rooms are all individually decorated. 4 bedrooms are en-suited and the other 2 share a bathroom in their own wing of the house. You have the choice of 4 rooms with queen beds, a twin room with 2 double beds and a family room with queen bed and 2 king singles. You can be assured of a good night's sleep in extremely comfortable beds and the creature comforts we add, to endeavour to make your stay memorable and just perfect.

The 2 rooms that share a bathroom, are the original 'guest wing' of the house. This is ideal for family groups of up to 6 people.

The layout of the house is also perfect for small conferences and group getaways, for which catering and event requirements will be personally tailored to your group's needs.

Enjoy the ambience of our stately dining room when you come downstairs for your silver service English style breakfast.

There is lots of space to relax in at Penghana as you have the choice of two guest lounges. You can also enjoy Tasmanian wines from our licensed bar, or weather permitting, find a quiet spot in our extensive gardens. This is a huge comfortable room ideal as a twin room or for a family or group travelling together. With its Queen bed and 2 x king singles, It can easily sleep a maximum of 4 people and there is still space for two comfy arm chairs and to spread out all your luggage. This is NOT AN EN-SUITED ROOM. The bathroom comprises of a separate toilet and shower over bath and shares with one other room, the Jukes Suite. Large windows look onto the front garden with a great view of Mt Owen. A 'silver service' English style breakfast served in our downstairs formal dining room is included in your tariff. Penghana B & B is an ideal venue for a residential retreat, small conference, group workshop or special week end away for a group of up to 14 adults. If you have a hobby group, a family or friends special celebration, need a small business strategic planning week-end, a residential training workshop, a reunion, a personal development retreat or the like, talk to us!
What makes Penghana ideal for such occasions are our: 2 guest lounges, ballroom, formal dining room which seats up to 14 people and options for various 'break out' areas. Upstairs amongst the 6 bedrooms is a small kitchenette for tea/coffee and snacks also set up to easily cater for morning/afternoon teas during meeting sessions.. Whether you prefer a formal affair or want a casual meal, we can plan with you to achieve your group's preferences. You might even like one of our La De Dah "afternoon teas' with all the trimmings! We have a liqour licence too. Parking for everyone isn't a problem either. We can even arrange the iconic tours that Queenstown is known for so you don't have all work and no play!
The starting package gives you exclusive use of Penghana facilities for your group of up to 12 adults with 2 nights accommodation and a full silver service breakfast served in our dining room each morning.
Of our 6 bedrooms, 4 are en-suited queen rooms, and the other two Queen bedrooms share a bathroom. One of these rooms also has the capacity to accommodate a further 2 people in King Single beds, if required. Separate Terms and Conditions apply to a group booking such as this and will be made available upon your enquiry.

Terms & Conditions

Whilst staying at Penghana please note this property has:
A 'NO SMOKING' POLICY: No smoking is permitted within any internal area of this National Trust house. Please ask for an ashtray and the location of appropriate "smoking permitted areas". For the comfort of other guests and insurance requirements of this heritage property, this policy is strictly enforced. Any guest who does not conform can expect to be asked to: vacate the premises immediately, without a refund and pay an additional cleaning fee equivalent to a night's accommodation charge in the room they have occupied.

A HOUSE DOG - HANNA THE BASSETT HOUND: If you prefer no dog contact in the common areas of the ground floor of the house, and you advise us accordingly either prior to or at check in, we will do our utmost to monitor her whereabouts so she does not greet you coming and going during your stay. We respectfully ask your understanding that Hanna is our eyes and ears for the security of the extensive ground floor area of Penghana and alerts us when anyone arrives, departs or is exploring the house. She is isolated from the dedicated upstairs guest areas.
Don't try to be-friend her. She is an elderly dog, set in her ways and generally doesn't like people she doesn't know well. wanting to pat her!

A POLICY FOR ADDITIONAL GUESTS: Without prior booking with confirmation, arriving to check in with additional guests in your party does not guarantee accommodation. Penghana does not cater for additional temporary bedding in any room, apart from a portable cot. Any extra person/persons who stay, are required to pay charges as advertised on our web site. This also applies to children sleeping with parents and not noted on original confirmed booking.

Payment Policy

Thank you for your credit card details. Payment will be processed on your scheduled check in date. In the event you fail to check in, or cancel, we retain the right to process payment in accordance with our Cancellation Policy. Penghana accepts Visa, Mastercard, Eftpos and of course cash.

We acknowledge some guests will have paid upfront with their travel agent which is not reflected on our booking system, so presentation of appropriate paperwork on check in would be appreciated.

Payment for extra guests not on any confirmed booking is required and payable directly to Penghana B & B, upon check-in.

Payment for total venue hire, group bookings, conferences, retreats etc. requires a 50% deposit paid within 7 days of booking confirmation

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations or changes to bookings must be made at least 24 hours prior to the check- in date.
Any booking cancelled within 24 hours of check-in time incurs a fee equal to the first night's accommodation cost. As we understand there are some instances where an emergency arises, we are happy for you to reschedule and use your "credit" within 12 months of the original booking.

Cancellation for Penghana retreats/conferences bookings includes a non-refundable administration fee of $250. The 50% deposit paid is non-refundable if cancellation is made less than 30 days prior to the check-in date.
