Located just 55 minutes drive north of Wellington is the stunning Reikorangi Valley.
A bush-clad eco-cottage at the edge of the Tararua Forest, with beautiful views, sounds of birdlife and the relaxing flow of the Ngatiawa River nearby. This new two bedroom off-grid cottage is designed to work with nature and fitted with a heartfelt nod to days gone by.
The eco-cottage offers on-site bush and farm walks, a splash in the river, hill climbs to views of Kapiti Island and the South Island, nighttime star gazing, or visits to glow worms.
Sink into the sofa with wine in hand, the wood burner roaring, or cast your favorite online series. Snuggle in a home-spun, home-knitted rug from sheep off the farm, or sit by the outdoor fire pit, roast marshmallows and watch the sunset.
There’s lots to do locally. Waikanae is within 15 minutes’ drive, with its sandy beaches and well-regarded restaurants, bakery and pubs.

Going off the grid doesn't mean that you have to sacrifice home comforts. Marian and Phil have created a brand new cottage that not only fits into nature but also tells a story. The bathroom sink and kitchen bench were part of Marian's childhood home including recycled WWII era corrugated iron, all have been incorporated into the cottage in a new and modern way.

Please note the following
Rates:
Prices are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD$) and include GST of 15%
Rates are based on 2 bedrooms with a maximum of 4 persons. The king bed can be arranged as two king singles, upon request.
An infant, under 2 years old is welcome. If you provide your own cot and bedding the infant is not counted as one of the 4 persons.
All bookings are for a minimum of 2 nights.
Child Policy
We welcome children but it must be noted that we are a working farm. Electric fences, cattle and sheep, and waterways are hazards for young adventurers, and all exploring of the property must be done with adult supervision.
Animal Policy
Our cottage is located on our working farm. We are animal lovers but we can’t have even your best-behaved pets among our guests, due to their health and safety, and that of our stock.
Number of Occupants
Your booking at our cottage is only for the guests confirmed at the time of booking. No functions or parties are allowed without prior consent. Any guests arriving at the property must leave by 10 p.m.
Arrival and departure times
Check-in time is between 2 pm and 8 pm. Full check-in instructions will be provided prior to booking. Guests arriving outside of this time may only check-in by pre-arrangement. Check-out time is by 11 am. The property must be completely vacated by check-out time. Failure to comply may incur a surcharge. You may request an early check-in or late check-out. We do our best to honor such requests.
No Smoking Policy
Guests agree not to smoke inside the property. A breach of this policy will result in a NZD$500 cleaning fee.
Damages
We have taken great care to build robust fixtures and to provide a comfortable environment.
Damage beyond the superficial to any of these fixtures and/or furniture will be charged to the client. Items include the bed, shower, chairs, kitchen bench, bath, and outdoor furniture.
Liability
Waa Rata Farm will not be liable for any loss of personal property of the guest.
Waa Rata Farm is not responsible for medical problems encountered before, during or after the guest’s stay.
Waa Rata Farm is not responsible should the guest adventure off the main tracks or at night.
Should any dispute arise, such dispute will be governed by the laws of New Zealand.
Indemnity
You, the guest, indemnify the agency against any liability that may attach to the agency as a result of damage, injury, or loss being personal or proprietary suffered by any person where damage, injury or loss has been contributed to or caused by any act or occasion of the tenant or his/her visitor.
We reserve the right to update these Terms & Conditions when required at our discretion.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation within 5 days of arrival date: 100% of the total booking price will be charged.
Credit Card details supplied will be used to charge any cancellation fees.
If we are able to replace your booking, this fee may be waived. A refund will incur $5 fee to process
Waa Rata Farm reserves the right to cancel a booking at any time due to adverse weather conditions. In this case, a full refund will be given.
