Built in 1861 and now Heritage listed for it's Georgian Streetscape, the Gaol House allows our guests to experience the feeling of days gone by. Featuring the original gaol cells and cell doors, the Gaol House makes for an unforgettable Tasmanian experience.

Decorated with period influences, the original pit-sawn floorboards and the open fireplace in the lounge have been preserved. The Gaol has a queen bed and two singles, a kitchen, lounge with open fire and dining room.
Ideal for families or couples, the Gaol is heated by the open fire and heat pump with panel heaters in both bedrooms and electric blankets on all beds. This is a fully self contained cottage.

The Old School House

Bicheno's original Primary School, from 1935 to 1958, this beautiful timber building provides all the comforts of home and can accommodated up to four people.

Ideal for families, the open plan layout of the ground floor is suitable for wheelchair access. There is a queen bed down stairs and two single beds on a mezzanine floor. The fully equipt kitchen and lounge room are heated by an electric heater. There is a panel heater on the bedroom wall, and all beds have electric blankets.

To complement your stay and help keep you warm this winter as you walk the Bicheno trails, the Gaol House Cottage has curated a selection of exclusive Tasmanian products to savour. Sit by the fire and enjoy Tasmanian whisky liquor or hot chocolate from your take-home enamel mugs as well as a selection of locally sourced gifts during your stay.
The Bicheno coast has an easy walking track that takes you all the way from Diamond Island to Rice Pebble Beach taking in some of the regions best sandy beaches and rugged coastline incorporating the famous Bicheno Blowhole. Walk past the remnants of the original coal loading granite wharf and huge iron rings used by ships to tether to in foul weather. Take your time and you may be lucky enough to spot a whale or catch a glimpse of a pod of dolphins playing in the cool waters. Delight in the unexpected.
The Gaol House is a stones throw from cafes, shops beaches and fresh seafood restaurants.

Terms and Conditions

(These terms and conditions apply to the Bicheno Investment Pty Ltd (BI) and all of its trading entities including but not necessarily limited to: TasShacks, SeaStacks, Gaol House Cottages, Denison Rivulet Retreats, Forest House, Seaview Holiday Park, and Craggy Peaks)

These terms and conditions apply to all bookings for the provision of accommodation made with BI, either directly or via a third party. By making a booking for accommodation, guests warrant that they have read these terms and conditions and agree to be bound by them, subject to such changes as are notified to them. If the booking for accommodation is made through a third party, the terms and conditions of that third party also apply.

All accommodation is provided subject to availability.

Rates are per unit/cabin/room/site, per night based on two-person occupancy.

If your party consists of a greater number than has been allowed for in the booking (including infants), then we reserve the right to charge for the additional guests or cancel the booking, with any refund being at BI discretion.

Check-in time is from 3pm and before 6pm, and check-out time is normally before 10am on the day of departure. If you are arriving outside of check-in hours, It is important that you make prior arrangements for access. Tel: 03 6375 1247 or Book@TasShacks.com.au

Vaccinations - All our guests and visitors are required to have received their COVID-19 vaccinations unless an approved exemption is provided by a relevant authority. Please provide confirmation of vaccination at or prior to check in. Otherwise we may not be in a position to honour your booking. For any enquiries about this please contact us on (03) 6375 1247.

Capacity Restrictions – We may be limiting the number of people allowed in each area. Please review any capacity signage supplied in each area.

Feeling Unwell – If you’re not feeling well, please return home and seek medical advice.

Late Check-In - If you are arriving after hours please ensure that you provide confirmation of vaccinations prior to check-in to avoid any delays.

Do’s and Don’ts

Here are a few do's and don'ts that apply during your stay at BI sites:

There is a speed limit of 10km around BI sites.
We reserve the right to refuse entry to any guests, and/or their visitors who do not respect or abide by our terms and conditions.
The operation of drones is only permitted at BI sites with prior written approval from management.
Please do not use massage or baby oil on the beds, or any bleaching agents on towels.
If any items are lost, damaged or broken during your visit, please advise us so that we can arrange a repair or replacement.
We reserve the right to charge visitors for any damage that occurs that we consider to be over and above normal wear and tear.
Guests are responsible for their own washing and drying of dishes at the end of their stay. We reserve the right to charge for additional time that this takes our housekeepers to complete, with a minimum fee of $25 being applied.
Some of our accommodation venues are dog friendly. If you are bringing your dog, you must abide by the terms and conditions of our pet friendly services. A copy is available on our website or by request.
When leaving the accommodation, please turn off all heaters and lights.
Lost keys will incur a charge for the cost of changing the locks & issuing new keys.
On arrival guests will be required to provide a valid credit card and photo identification to cover any Incidental charges.
Damage, breakages, theft and losses are the guests responsibility during their stay. Additional cleaning fees may apply as required.

Code of Conduct

Bicheno Investments Pty Ltd has a Code of Conduct that guests must adhere to at all times. The following behaviour is deemed unacceptable and is in breach of the Company’s Code of Conduct

Loud and abusive language, including verbal or physical behaviour towards staff, guests, animals or any other person or beingIntoxication and unsavoury behaviour
Unnecessary or inappropriate interaction with wildlife
Wilful damage or destruction of any property irrespective of the owner of said property
Any behaviour that poses a threat, either implied or real to others
Excessive noise
Smoking in rooms or any other building on the properties
Overcrowding of accommodation. The total number of guests cannot exceed the number of guests registered for the stay
Assault of any kind
Possession or consumption of any illegal material including but not limited to drugs, pornography and firearms.
Ignoring directions or instructions from management


Eviction or Cancellation Policy

In the unfortunate event that a guest is in breach of our Code of Conduct the Bicheno Investments Pty Ltd reserves the right to cancel a booking at any time and request the guest and their partners, friends and/or family leave the premises immediately.

In the event of an escalated dispute the Bicheno Investments Pty Ltd reserves the right to take whatever action is necessary to evict the guest and their partners, friends and/or family, which includes but may not be limited to seeking police intervention.

In the event of such action a guest may receive a banning notice issued by Bicheno Investments Pty Ltd and encompassing all its associated entities and properties.

It is entirely at the discretion of BI as to whether an evicted guest or a guest who has had their reservation cancelled due to a breach of the organisations Code of Conduct is eligible to receive a pro-rata or partial refund.

By providing credit card details, guests warrant they have the authority to use the credit card and they authorise BI to charge the cost of their booking(s) to that credit card.

We reserve the right to charge the card that you provide at the time of booking, anytime within 1 day of your booking arrival date.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy

7 days or more prior to arrival: nil

6 days or less prior to arrival: agreed rate for one night per room cancelled.

This means that if you cancel less than 7 days of when you are to stay, a fee of one night will be charged to your credit card (per room booked).

Cancellations of bookings made within 24 hours of arrival: nil

No refund will be given for any unused services or non-arrival.

Our Travel Advisory Policy – Covid-19

Border Closure Guarantee

In the unfortunate situation that your stay with us needs to be cut short due to Government border changes related to Covid-19, you will only be required to pay for accommodation charges up to and including the night of the date you cancel – with the remainder of your stay being cancelled at no additional cost.

BI reserves the right to cancel a booking for whatever reason. Should this occur then the booking fee will be fully refunded, but BI accepts no liability for any consequential loss to the client as a result of that cancellation.

BI cannot be held responsible for damages or compensation for cancellation or curtailment in unforeseeable circumstances that prevent you from fulfilling your booking.

If you believe that there is a possibility that you might cancel or curtail, for whatever reason, then you should arrange your own cancellation insurance.

Covid 19 Cancellation policy
It is important that you inform us in advance if anyone in your travel party is unwell, or self-isolating because they are at risk of having COVID-19

Due to strict public health requirements if this is the case, we will be unable to provide accommodation to you or anyone in your travel party. We will of course treat this information in strict confidence and will be happy to cancel or reschedule your stay for another time in line with our booking policy, supporting documentation must be supplied.

Business Vaccination Policy - Policy and Booking Condition

Policy
In accordance with Bicheno Investments Pty Ltd (“Bicheno”) duty to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards, we are adopting this policy to safeguard the health of our customers and visitors, our employees and the community at large from infectious diseases, such as COVID-19 or influenza, that may be reduced by vaccinations.

Employees - All eligible employees are requested to be or have received vaccinations, or in relation to the COVID-19 Vaccine have a booking for their second dose of the relevant vaccine, by 15 December 2021.
Bicheno requests that all employees comply with this policy unless an approved exemption is provided by any relevant authority or the company. Bicheno requests that the relevant proof of vaccination for the COVID-19 vaccine is provided by each employee.
Where an employee is not in compliance with this policy, the employee may be placed on unpaid leave until their employment status is determined. Bicheno will pay any employee that is still to receive their COVID-19 vaccine at their normal rate for the period in which they are obtaining relevant vaccine for COVID-19, as well as cover any reasonable associated travel costs.

Customers - All eligible customers and visitors are requested to be or have received vaccinations, or in relation to the COVID-19 Vaccine have a booking for their second dose of the relevant vaccine, by 15 December 2021.

Bicheno requests that all customers and visitors comply with this policy unless an approved exemption is provided by any relevant authority or the company.
Bicheno requests that employees obtain the relevant confirmation of vaccination from COVID-19 is received from customer or visitors at or prior to check in or attending the relevant premises.
Where a person is not in compliance with this policy, the person will not be granted entry to the premises. In such circumstances Bicheno’s refund and or credit policy may apply.

Booking Term - The company will not accept a booking for any eligible person that is not fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or does not commit to such requirement. Where a person makes a booking and is then unable to meet the requirement, the customer shall be barred from the premises and the company’s cancellation policy shall apply.
