THE WRITER'S ROOM
The Writer's Room is a small retreat with exquisite detail nestled in the Byron Bay Hinterland for a restorative and creative pause.
Situated on Bundjalung Country on the edge of the Goonengerry National Park, The Writer’s Room is an extension of My General Store the lifestyle brand founded by Michelle Glew-Ross in 2016.
Along with her husband, self-described architecture, and design nerd Tim Ross, they have created an intimate space for singles or couples to immerse themselves in precious land that they have fallen in love with.
Michelle’s ethos for My General Store is about all considered pieces made sustainably and to last and this is extended in the approach to the Writer’s Room, a one-bedroom retreat featuring a curated selection of beautiful objects, carefully collected furniture and an outdoor shower designed in collaboration with award winning Brisbane architect Paul Owen.
A deeply personal project for Michelle and Tim, they invite you to share the space where they find the time to pause and connect to Country.
THE SPACE:
The Writer’s Room, set on three acres with endless views of the lush hinterland is designed to work with the landscape to encourage a slower pace.
Guarded by a magnificent grandmother tree is our fire circle, a special place for creativity, flow, contemplation, and ceremony.
The property also features a rather prolifically fruiting Mulberry Tree, a delightful mature bush lemon tree and a seasonal kitchen garden full of organic produce for you to pick while you stay.
Our water is sourced directly from an ancient spring that delivers natural mineral water for drinking and bathing.
One bedroom: Queen size bed
Kitchenette: Small Fridge, Stovetop, blender, Jaffle sandwich maker.
There’s no bath but we do have a magnificent architecturally designed outdoor shower.
We have collaborated with Genovese Coffee to create an exclusive TWR blend for you to enjoy while you stay.
A selection of Teas are grown and made by the Medicine House in Burringbar exclusively for TWR.
Onsite car parking.
Special requests can be arranged including reservations and transport to all of the local restaurants. Please contact us with any special requirements that you may have.
THE LARDER:
A cupboard full of goodness including organic wines and our favourite local provisions.
There’s also a selection of exclusive My General Store pieces available.
EXPLORE:
Situated in the Hinterland of the Byron Bay region, Goonengerry is immersed in nature. Surrounded by National Parks, Waterholes, Waterfalls, incredible scenic drives, and local villages.
Federal village is our local and is 7 min drive. We are 15 minutes to Mullumbimby, 20 minutes to Bangalow and 25 minutes to Byron bay.
When you stay with us you will find a comprehensive list of our favourite and most special places to visit; days spent exploring the hinterland, beautiful beaches and secret beaches of the Byron Bay region and villages to visit on your afternoon drives.

A 50% Deposit is charged at time of booking.
The balance of the booking will be charged automatically to the same Credit Card 30 days before your Check-In date.
If you book within 30 days, full payment is required at time of booking.
CANCELLATION POLICY
If you cancel your booking up to 30 days before Check-In, full refund of the total amount paid
There is no refund of you cancel your booking less than 30 days before Check-In,

The Writer’s Room can only accommodate a maximum of two guest

DAMAGE
During your stay you are fully responsible for all breakages and damage caused to the property, its furniture, fittings, or any consequent loss suffered by the Property Owner.
Any breakages, damage or loss must be reported immediately and paid for prior to departure. Failure to comply with this condition will result in a debit of any such costs and expenses to your credit card.
SMOKING
The Writer’s Room is a non smoking venue.
