Villa Melati

Utterly peaceful and private, Villa Melati is reached via its own rack-and-pinion funicular lift or by some steps, yet is just 10 minutes drive from central Ubud.

Surrounded by nature, it's landscaped into the side of the Ayung River valley, overlooking rice fields. The fan-shaped infinity pool makes the house appear to float above the treetops.

Using local materials, the villa was designed to harmonise with the environment, offering a blend of open-air living and air-conditioned comfort.

Villa Melati has 5 permanent staff who are at guests’ service throughout their stay; they are the chef (who is also the head housekeeper), the housemaid, the gardener/engineer, the driver, and a night watchman. All work as one team, sharing duties where possible.

The villa can sleep up to eight adults.

The two main bedrooms each have a king-size bed, and en-suite facilities. Both have air-conditioning as well as ceiling fans - the ceilings are very high, and the climate of Ubud is relatively cool, so the ceiling fans are often sufficient. Each bedroom has huge sliding doors opening onto the lawn in front of the pool. A baby-cot or a child’s bed can be provided.

There's a third bedroom, inside a genuine antique Balinese rice barn. The barn has been fitted with a delightful sleeping loft for two, with either a king-size mattress, or two singles. Both ceiling fan and air-conditioning are provided, and there’s a small lavatory. Below inside a cave, is the barn’s main private bathroom, reached by steps. The barn is ideally suited to younger people, due to the 3 flights of steps up and down between the sleeping area and the cave.

A fourth sleeping area on the open-sided mezzanine floor above the dining room has two single beds, with curtains for visual privacy. Fans, but no air-conditioning. Private shower room and lavatory are downstairs. Thus also best for younger guests.

The rice barn also doubles as the entertainment room on a rainy day, with cable TV and a DVD player.

A beautiful collector’s-piece ‘sakenam’ pavilion overlooking the rice-terraces, the valley, and distant volcanoes is perfect for breakfast, or just for daydreaming.

Arrival at the villa from the private car park is via a flight of steps – this is what makes the setting of the house unique. No sounds from the road – only the sound of the rushing River Ayung, far below in the valley. We have added a rack-and-pinion funicular lift carrying 4-5 people, which is always available when the steps are daunting.

Meals:
Complimentary daily full breakfast is prepared and served by our team. Other meals can be provided according to guests’ wishes, with provisions for these obtained by staff at guests’ expense, plus a small service charge per shopping trip. There is a menu, with a variety of Indonesian selections, and some simple international dishes. We also stock some wines. Villa Melati is a 10-minute drive from the centre of Ubud village, where there is a wide choice of restaurants and other facilities.

The fully equipped kitchen may be used by guests if they wish.

There is free WiFi, and a computer for guests' use.

There's a Safety Box in the first bedroom, and Hair Dryers and bathroom amenities are provided.

Airport transfers can be arranged at a charge of US$ 35.00–US$ 40.00 each way, with our car or van and driver. Free drop-offs to and pick-ups from Ubud for up to 5 persons. Trips beyond Ubud charged by half day or full day. We have a number of suggested tour itineraries.
