Vimala is named in honour of Her Highness Princess Vimalachatra, King Rama 5’s granddaughter, who is the mother of M.R. Chalermchatra Vudhijaya [Khunchai Nui] and M.R. Phromchatra Svasti [Khunying Noi-Noy].
After the end of World War 2, about 80 years ago, Khunchai Nui’s father His Serene Highness Prince Udaya C. Vudhijaya decided to move his family from The Vudhijaya Mansion in Larn Luang Road to the present compound in Soi Aree [Sukhumvit 26].
Back then, Sukhumvit was known as Bangkapi. The area was surrounded by rice paddy fields and local fruit plantations. Land was cheap and the atmosphere was quiet and cosy. So, many members of the royal families moved out into the area especially Sukhumvit 26, making it today’s one of the most expensive residential spot and quiet and cosy place to live in. This is how we got started.
